Every Fall for the past seven years we have hosted a convention to celebrate films and experience the work and excitement that goes into making those films. Recently we've also run a mini convention in Spring with Odyessy Con, another group whose focus is the literary side of science fiction and related genre. Over the course of these many years we've had some very extraordinary guests attend the convention. They include designers and artists from Lucasfilm and ILM as well as computer artists from Battlestar Galactica and Firefly. Over the past several conventions, we've focused on teaching such things as CGI and rotoscoping to matte painting and set dressing. And these are not just from the Hollywood aspect but how you can actually make a film yourself. And because of this desire for you to succeed in making your own film, we've brought in guests who have made, or are currently working on, independent films. This Spring, however, I wanted to do something different. The theme is the supernatural but it can really be about anything from horror, mystery, suspense or even a creature feature! Many of our guests are coming to talk about their experiences and to help you understand what is really "out there." I look forward to seeing new faces and old friends. This looks to be a very exciting weekend and I hope one that will change the way you look at film making! All my best, Eric Larson FilmCon Chairman |
